Steelmaker Jindal Steel and Power Ltd reported a 35 % year-on-year jump in sales in January at 5.8 lakh tonnes on the back of better demand and pick-up in economic activity.
“With the country getting back to normalcy, we will only do better. We’ll double our efforts towards rebuilding the economy and the nation,” said JSPL MD V R Sharma
JSPL’s monthly production increased by 80% year-on-year in January 2021 to 6.9 lakh tonnes.
“Higher production also helped JSPL post a solid growth in shipments to 5.8 lakh tonnes. Shipments were however lower quarter on quarter as JSPL continued to focus on value over volumes,” the company said in a statement.

Larsen & Toubro bagged an order in the range of `2,500 crore to `5,000 crore from Rail Vikas Nigam.
The order entails heavy civil infrastructure work for a new broad-gauge line between Rishikesh and Karanprayag in the state of Uttarakhand, running through Himalayan terrain.
“Establishing a rail link between Rishikesh and Karanprayag will not only facilitate easy access to Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage sites, but also enable development of backward areas, connect new trade centres, and serve the resident population,” said SV Desai, whole time director and senior executive vice president (civil infrastructure).
The project is scheduled to be completed in 60 months.

Bids Invited by Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India for construction of rail flyover.
The scope of work involves construction of rail flyover and its approaches on viaducts, formation in embankments/cuttings including blanketing, supply and spreading of ballast and related works for single track bi-directional electrified railway track on Item-Rate Basis for Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Jn, B-route RFO connecting DFCCIL Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Jn (DDU) yard with Vyasnagar station of Northern Railway and other related works such as Quarters, Water Tank, Drainage etc in connection with construction of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
The completion period of this construction work is of 2 years.

Launching projects key to improving connectivity in northeast India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the “double-engine” government at the Centre and in Assam has reduced the geographical and cultural gap in the entire region.
PM Modi, through video conferencing, laid the foundation stone of India’s longest bridge which will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya.
The four-lane bridge will run over the Brahmaputra river between Dhubri (on North Bank) and Phulbari (on South Bank). It will play a crucial role in connecting the two northeastern states.
The 19km bridge will be built at a total cost of approximately 4,997 crore.
Launching the bridge, PM Modi said this will be a life-changing setu for the people in the region.

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman announced several measures to augment road infrastructure in the Union Budget 2021-22.
An enhanced outlay of `1,18,101 crore has been provided for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Over 13,000 km length of roads, at a cost of `3.3 lakh crore, has already been awarded under the `5.35 lakh crore Bharatmala Pariyojana of which 3,800 km have been constructed.
A 3,500 km of national highway works in Tamil Nadu has been planned at an investment of `1.03 lakh crore.
A 1,100 km national highway works will be taken up in Kerala at an investment of `65,000 crore including 600 km section of Mumbai-Kanyakumari corridor, 675 km highway works in West Bengal at a cost of `25,000 crore.
National highway works of around `19,000 crore are currently in progress in Assam. Further works of more than `34,000 crore, covering more than 1300 km of national highways, will be undertaken in the state in the coming three years.
Other important projects such as 260 km of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be awarded before 31 March 2021; 278 km work of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be initiated in FY21 and construction will begin in FY22.
Work on 210 km Delhi-Dehradun economic corridor will be initiated in FY21 and construction will begin in FY22. Similarly, work on 63 km Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway providing an alternate route to NH-27 will be initiated in FY22.
Under Chennai-Salem corridor, 277 km expressway will be awarded and construction would start in FY22 and under Raipur-Vishakhapatnam corridor, 464 km passing through Chhattisgarh, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh will be awarded in FY21 and construction will start in FY22.
