The construction arm of L&T has secured orders worth `1,000 crore to `2,000 crore across various projects. The water and effluent treatment business of the company has bagged an order from Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to design, build and operate sewage treatment plants and intermediate sewage pumping stations along with construction of main sewers for 110 villages in the Mahadevpura and Bommanahalli districts of Bengaluru city. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The heavy civil infrastructure business will construct various facilities for the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Tarapur in Maharashtra in 42 months.It will also construct sports infrastructure facilities in the Kalinga Stadium at Bhubaneswar and a new International Hockey Stadium with 20,000 seating capacity at Rourkela in time for the Hockey World Cup, 2023 with total built-up area of 8.45 lakh sq. ft.
The fast-track sports projects in Odisha are expected to be completed in 15 months.

Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited said its subsidiary JMC Projects has bagged new orders worth ₹1,624 crore. The work includes a road project in Ghana, South Africa, and a few building projects in India, Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited (KPTL) said in a BSE filing.
S. K. Tripathi, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the company said: “We are pleased with the new order wins across our Buildings and Infra businesses. The international order marks our foray into Ghana. He further said the company’s current year order inflow has reached a level of ₹4,659 crore.

Jindal Steel, one of India’s steel majors, will set up an integrated steel plant with an annual production capacity of 2.25 million tonnes in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, the state government said. The State Investment Promotion Board (SPIB), which met under chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s chairmanship approved Jindal Steel Andhra Limited’s proposal to set up the integrated steel plant with an investment of `7,500 crore. The SIPB agreed to allot 860 acres of land at Tamminapatnam in SPS Nellore district for the Jindal plant, a statement from CMO said.
The proposed plant would provide employment for 2,500 people over the next four years. The board also approved an extension of the deadline to June 2022 for setting up St. Gobain industry in Visakhapatnam district. The company had requested an extension due to Covid conditions and came forward to invest `2,001 crore in three phases, the statement added.

Vedanta Aluminium Business invites partnerships from cement producers for using its by-products for manufacturing low-carbon cement. The company expressed its interest for long-term collaboration with cement industry players on opportunities of using fly ash and bauxite residue in cement manufacturing, in a national workshop conducted with global industry experts.
Fly ash and bauxite residue, the two most voluminous by-products generated by the aluminium industry, can be used in cement and concrete manufacturing, providing cement manufacturers significant benefits in terms of quality output, cost and sustainability.

Bids for road projects of around 2,000km are in the pipeline and will likely be awarded this month onwards, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) looks to push construction activity after a brief slowdown. Project award and construction activity was lean in April and May, as offices remained shut and labourers returned home due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
From April this year, the NHAI has awarded around 450km of projects, while construction of 480km of roads was completed till May. Overall, the pace of highway construction was 73.5% more in April-May, compared with the first two months of the last fiscal year. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways constructed 1,470km of national highways up to May this year, compared with 847km a year earlier, as per ministry data.
