India’s first electric highway is likely to come up between Delhi and Jaipur soon as per statements issued by Mr. Nitin Gadkari who said that his ministry is already in talks with a foreign company to construct the highway between these two cities. “It is my dream to build an electric highway from Delhi to Jaipur. It is still a proposed project. We are in discussion with a foreign company,” Gadkari was quoted as saying.
Road Ministry stated that the first stretch of e-highway will likely be completed by mid-2022. Trucks and buses will be able to run on the e-highway at a speed of 120 kmph, which as per the reports, will reduce cost of logistics by 70%.

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road transport and Highways announced the 6 lane access controlled Ambala – Kotputli Greenfield Corridor is being constructed at record pace which is a 313 Km long highway. It is being developed with an investment of `11,000 crores. It will transform the road infrastructure of of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
So far, 80% construction of the Greenfield Corridor has been completed and the entire road infra project is scheduled to open to the public by March 2022, Gadkari said. During the meeting, the Union Minister also emphasised on safety-first approach for design and construction of roads in
the country, development of eco-friendly roads, industry-friendly approach, new technology for faster, safe and economic roads as well as faster construction.

Steel minister, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh advised the Indian steel industry to adopt hydrogen in a big way. “Acknowledging the concerns regarding environment and emissions generated by steel sector, the minister advised the industry to move towards adoption of using hydrogen in a big way,” steel ministry said in a statement.
“Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh directed the ministry officials to hold a discussion with the industry to address the concerns of the industry regarding the production-linked incentive scheme for specialty steel which was notified in July 2021. The minister directed that due consultation with the steel players should be done prior to the issuance of guidelines for PLI scheme,” the statement said. This comes against the backdrop of a robust demand for steel and high prices. With the current cost of green hydrogen produced by electrolysis estimated at around `350 per kg, the plan is to more than halve it to `160 per kg by 2029-30.

A hydroelectric plant to be the most powerful in Europe is under construction in Ukraine.The Dniester PSPS plant will consist of 7 hydraulic units which will give a capacity of 2268 MW, making it the 6th largest plant of its kind in the world. The total value of the project is not available; the government has revealed that construction of the number four hydraulic unit is set to cost around €223 million.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, spoke about its importance to industry in the country, with 80% of the equipment to be used coming from Ukrainian manufacturers. He gave transformer equipment, metal structures and cable products as examples and highlighted the manufacturers Turboatom and Elektrovazhmash. Mr. Shmyhal added that some 1,000 construction workers would be employed on the project, in addition to well over 400 who would be employed at the plant when it is commissioned.

Australia’s Macquarie Group, South Korean civil engineering company SK Ecoplant and Italy’s Webuild got into a joint venture, known collectively as Sotra Link consortium has won a £1.65bn contract to finance, design, build and operate a 9.4 km, 4 lane road link in Norway.
It is the largest single contract ever awarded by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and includes the construction of a 900m long suspension bridge and 12.5 km of tunnels. Sotra Link will operate and maintain the link for 25 years after it opens to traffic in 2027.
The bridge will be 30 m wide and 900 m long and towers 114 m high. The project also includes a total of 12.5 km of tunnels, 19 road and pedestrian underpasses, 23 tunnel portals, 22 bridges and viaducts and 14 km of pedestrian and bicycle path.
NPRA’s construction director Kjell Inge Davik said: “Sotra Link has delivered a very competitive bid for the Sotra connection-contract and takes on considerable responsibility and risk for the project to be carried out at the agreed time and price. “The companies behind Sotra Link have extensive experience with implementing PPP contracts and extensive experience with the construction of suspension bridges and tunnels. We look forward to a close collaboration with Sotra Link for many years to come.”
